People flock to the holy bath in Chilmari
Ignoring the government restrictions, the traditional religious devotees have descended on the Brahmaputra river at different points in Chilmari of Kurigram. Today, on the occasion of the holy bath, two days ago, the devotees gathered from different parts of the country in CNG-powered autorickshaws, easy bikes, rickshaw vans, and motorcycles to take part in the holy bath in Chilmari.
Despite warnings from the administration to follow the hygiene rules, it did not work. As a result, thousands of men and women did not follow the hygiene rules and took part in the holy bath at different points of the Brahmaputra river.
From time immemorial, the followers of traditional religions have been bathing in the Brahmaputra river of Chilmari for atonement. This time the situation is different due to the increase in coronavirus infection and death across the country. ‘Universal lockdown’ is going on as well. “It’s our religious ritual,” said one of the benefactors, who came to take a bath during a nationwide lockdown. We are here to wish our heavenly parents well. ‘
In this regard, Chilmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer AWM Raihan Shah said, “I have received news that the benefactors have joined the festival in isolation in the morning.” Police have been asked to return them. Besides, the campaign is being carried out by banning bathing from dawn.
